THE 2023 NSMQ PRELIMINARY BALLOTING RESULTS

The 2023 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) season kicked off in June with the much-anticipated regional qualifiers. As schools from all sixteen regions of Ghana battled it out, the competition was fierce, leading to some surprising outcomes.

In the Ashanti Region, Opoku Ware School, a perennial powerhouse, could not hold onto their championship, making way for new contenders. St. Peter's SHS, which had shown remarkable promise, reached the finals of the regional qualifiers but was ultimately defeated by Pope Johns, earning them the Eastern Regional Championship.

Meanwhile, in the Ashanti Region, Kumasi Anglican rose to the occasion, defeating strong competitors like Prempeh College and SIMMS SHS to secure the Ashanti Regional Championship. This year, seven (7) private schools will join the competition.

The Launch and Preliminary balloting was held in Accra. The preliminary stage contests to the semi-final will be held in KNUST from October 6 to Oct 19 and the Grande Finale held in Accra at the National Theatre.

As the excitement continued to build, the balloting for the preliminary stages of the National Championship took place on September 26, 2023. The participating schools were divided into three pots: Pot A, B, and C. A school from Pot A would compete against schools from both Pot B and C, setting the stage for thrilling contests.

After much anticipation, the balloting results were revealed, with a total of 117 participating schools, evenly distributed among the three pots (A, B, and C), excluding the seeded schools.

With 39 contests, each contest is made up of 3 schools, scheduled for the preliminary stages, the NSMQ promised to deliver yet another year of intense competition and academic excellence. Stay tuned for more exciting updates as the quiz unfolds!
