Theresa Kufuor, the wife of former President John Agyekum Kufuor, and the second First Lady of the Fourth Republic of Ghana, passed away on October 1, 2023, at her home in the Peduase area on the Aburi mountain.

Born on October 25, 1935, Theresa was a retired nurse and midwife with a remarkable career that spanned years of service in the United Kingdom. She graduated from the Radcliffe Infirmary, Oxford, and Paddington General Hospital, London, becoming a State Certified Midwife with a Certificate in Premature Nursing.
Before her marriage to John Kufuor in 1962, Theresa, then known as Theresa Mensah, started her education at the Catholic Convent in Keta, Volta Region. She later pursued further education in London, where she became a Registered Nurse after studying at the Southern Hospital Group of Nursing in Edinburgh, Scotland.

Throughout her 61 years of marriage to John Kufuor, Theresa was a devoted wife and mother to their five children. Her commitment to public service extended to her role as First Lady of Ghana for eight years, from January 7, 2001, to January 6, 2009.
