The second edition of the State of the SRC Address (SOSA) at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) was delivered by Her Excellency Yvonne Osei Adobea, the first-ever female SRC President, in a ceremony that highlighted significant achievements, ongoing projects, and future plans aimed at enhancing the student experience. Her speech emphasized the evolving relationship between the SRC and the Parliamentary Council, likening it to a maturing partnership filled with love, support, and consensus-building.

The SRC has made substantial contributions to student welfare, including an additional GHS 150,000 to assist over 4,000 students in dire need of financial aid for their end-of-semester exams. This is in addition to the Ketewa Biara Nsua Scholarship, which helped over 8,000 students. In total, the SRC has supported about 12,000 students, contributing approximately GHS 4 million towards tuition fees. The SRC also engaged with external scholarship administrators like the GNPC Foundation, Ghana Gas Scholarship Scheme, Ghana Educational Trust Fund (GetFund), and the Scholarship Secretariat to expedite grant disbursements. Additionally, partnerships with private sector players aim to provide scholarships in fields such as sustainability, environmental science, natural resources, and geosciences, with new initiatives rolling out this semester.
The SRC Food Bank continues to operate, providing groceries and food items to deserving students. H.E. Osei Adobea encouraged students in need to utilize this service, ensuring no student goes hungry.

The SRC has supported various religious groups on campus, celebrating events like Eid with Muslim colleagues and providing necessary logistics for these celebrations. H.E. Osei Adobea reiterated the SRC’s commitment to advancing both student welfare and spiritual growth, aiming to partner with the SCC council to support religious activities further.
One of the highlights of the address was the announcement of the SRC Entrepreneurship Support Fund, now open for applications. This fund aims to support student entrepreneurs in launching and expanding their business models. The administration is working to inaugurate the Board of the SRC Entrepreneurship Centre, which will oversee the implementation of a startup school in collaboration with reputable global institutes.

In an effort to promote inclusivity, the SRC is collaborating with the Association of Persons with Disabilities and the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program to introduce Ambassadors for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs). This initiative aims to foster a supportive environment for students with disabilities.
The SRC is also launching an extra-curricular weekend school program offering courses in Data Science and Analytics, AI and Machine Learning, Communication and Public Speaking, Office Tools Masterclass, Climate Change, Green Energy, Emotional Intelligence, and Mental Health. These courses aim to enrich students' skills and career prospects.
A Study Abroad and Scholarship Summit is scheduled for May 31st, featuring representatives from Education USA, the British Council, and the French and Canadian embassies. This event is a fantastic opportunity for students to explore study abroad options and scholarships.
Furthermore, the SRC is supporting the SONSOL initiative by providing 65 high-spec laptops to needy students, with applications opening soon.
Several infrastructure projects are underway, including constructing outdoor seating areas at the Conference Centre and the SRC Hostel, renovating the Student Clinic, and commencing works on the SRC ICT Carrera Centre. These projects aim to enhance the student experience on campus.
In response to complaints about shuttle queues, the SRC is taking steps to procure electric buses to supplement existing ones, reducing carbon emissions and promoting sustainability. KNUST aims to lead in scientific and technological breakthroughs towards a Net-Zero Emission Campus in Africa.

The SRC has begun engagements with management to restore JCRC and SRC Week celebrations, advocating for the revision of additional re-sit charges and fighting for an open market for graduation photo shoots. Additionally, the SRC successfully reduced the minimum fee payment requirement for end-of-semester exams from 70% to 50% and introduced a flexible fee payment schedule.
H.E. Osei Adobea assured the student body of a fair and independent electoral process for the upcoming elections, ensuring a level playing field for all candidates. She emphasized the ongoing commitment of the SRC to keep in touch with the student body and address their needs. She welcomed everyone back to campus, expressing hopes for a successful year ahead and reaffirming the dedication of the SRC to making student dreams come true.
