KNUST Students' Week Celebration Begins With Clean-up Exercise and Kenkey Party

The much-anticipated KNUST SRC Week, now rebranded as the Students’ Week Celebration, began on Saturday, July 12, 2025, with a Kenkey Party at the Royal Parade Grounds. As earlier announced by the SRC President, H.E. Ken Nana Francis, the celebration was to begin with a campus-wide clean-up exercise followed by the kenkey party to officially usher in the week-long festivities.

Although the clean-up exercise was scheduled to start at 6:00 AM across the various halls and off-campus residences, visible activity was largely absent during the early hours. Among the few constituencies that executed the task, the Bomso-Ahinsan Non-Residential Constituency stood out. Led by their Member of Parliament, Jake Abednego, some residents mobilized later in the day to clean the surroundings of Bomso Clinic and Ultimate Hostel.

The highlight of the day, however, came with the Kenkey Party. Students gathered in large numbers at the Parade Grounds to enjoy a serving of the local delicacy. Nestlé Ghana added a warm touch to the event by providing free cups of tea to students, complementing the meal and enhancing the communal atmosphere. Music was also provided by a DJ, creating an enjoyable and engaging ambiance throughout the event.

The event was graced by key members of the KNUST SRC administration including the President, his Vice President, the Women’s Commissioner, the Public Relations Officer, Publicity Head, other executives and appointees, as well as executives of various student associations.

Kenkey Haven, a kenkey brand founded by a KNUST alumnus and former SRC Presidential aspirant, was in charge of the kenkey and all accompanying items including fried fish, pepper sauce, and sausages. The serving team included the SRC Women’s Commissioner, Nana Yaa Adoakye, who joined others in distributing meals to students in an orderly queue. The CEO of Kenkey Haven was also present on site to supervise the delivery process.

Students were given free bottled water as part of the meal package. While many chose to package their food and return to their hostels and halls, others enjoyed their meal on the platforms provided at the venue. The event concluded successfully after all the prepared kenkey balls had been served.
