KNUST has six (6) traditional halls for accommodating students. Mostly occupied by first-years and hall executives.

Below are the various halls and their history.
1. INDEPENDENCE HALL (INDECE)

Independence Hall KNUST has a special place in Ghana as it was officially opened in February 1959 to commemorate the attainment of Ghana’s independence on 6th March 1957. Independence Hall is the premier and maiden hall in KNUST and serves as a permanent hall of residence for both male and female students.

Residents and Past Residents are known as Spartans. The hall consists of 198 rooms in the main hall and 96 rooms in 8 story annex. The Independence Hall is well equipped with an internet café, communication center, Games room, Gym, Salon, mini-mart, and Dining Hall.
2. AFRICA HALL

Africa Hall was an all-female residency. In 2018, it was converted into a mixed hall. It was first occupied by students on 14th October 1967. Members of the Hall are popularly known as “Domites”. Africa Hall has a total of 192 inhabitable rooms.

Facilities include a modern Internet Cafe, Mini Basketball court, Games room, Salon, laundry, A well-managed kitchen that serves food, and a modern mini market.
3. UNIVERSITY HALL (KATANGA)
The University Hall KNUST has a long history that dates back to 1961. The Hall was to commemorate the accession of the then Kumasi College of Technology to full University status on 22nd August 1961. University Hall, popularly known as Katanga was an all-male hall until the 1st of August 2018, when it was converted into a mixed Hall. The main hall has 198 while the annex has 95 rooms.
Members of this hall are known as 'Fellows'. The hall is also called Katanga.
Facilities include a Games room, A Gym, a Chapel, Internet Cafe, A mini market, a Communication Center, Barbering Salon, kitchen that serves food.
4. REPUBLIC HALL (REPU)
Republic Hall is a mixed Hall with a capacity of 850 students. The Republic Hall was named to commemorate Ghana's attainment of Republic Status in 1960. In 1961, the hall was opened but no women were admitted to the hall. The first woman to be admitted was in 1991. It has 198 rooms in the main and 96 in the annex block. Members of this hall are known as Mongols.

Facilities include a modern mini Basket ball court, Games room, Salon, Gift Shop, and kitchen that serves food. Cock Tavern is a very popular Junior Common Room on campus. Republic Hall is well known for organizing big programs which people from across Ghana come to enjoy. Repu as it is popularly called is also the home to the Student Representative Council (SRC) Office.
5. UNITY HALL (CONTI)
Unity Hall KNUST is the largest hall with an original accommodation capacity of 448 rooms but presently has 36 extra flats. From its inception, Unity Hall has always been a male hall but on the 1st of August 2018, the hall was converted to a mixed hall. It has modern facilities and it is nicknamed “The Twin Towers”. Members are known as “Continentals” on “Conti” for short.
Facilities include a modern internet cafe, Communication & Business center, Basketball court, Games room, A Boutique & Gift Shop, Barbering Salon, a kitchen that serves food, and a shopping mall with a well-stocked Supermarket. It has the most comfortable, friendly, and spacious Junior Common Room on campus.

6. QUEEN ELIZABETH II HALL (QUEENS)
Queen Elizabeth II Hall, also known as Queens Hall KNUST, has 294 rooms. The hall was named after the late Queen of England, Queen Elizabeth II. In November 1959. The hall was officially commissioned by the Duke of Edinburgh. The Queen of England never visited the hall until 1961 during her state visit to Ghana at that time.

Members of Queen Elizabeth II Hall are usually known as “Royals”. Facilities include a modern internet cafe, Communication center, Badminton court, Games room, Gym, Chapel, Salon, Gift Shop, shopping mall, and kitchen that serves food.
Katanga and Conti are known for their enjoyable morale. Fridays are for morales. Republic hall also tends not to disappoint when it comes to entertainment. They have been hosting big artists for their programs. In August 2022, Katanga and Unity were involved in a class (Read more on their clash) thereby compelling the school authorities to ban morale and hall week. This affected Republic Hall greatly because their hall week was upcoming. All halls have cadet corps.
How To Book Hall Accommodation.
Students who wish to be residents of any of the traditional halls can follow the below procedures.
Accommodation portals are opened to students who have paid their academic fees.
1. Pay academic fees first.
2. Log onto your portal and tap on Book Accommodation.
3. Select accommodation from the list available. A reservation code will be generated. Below is how the reservation code looks like.
4. Logout and proceed to make accommodation fee payment.
5. Log in again with your credentials to select your room in any hall of your choice.
Hall rooms are displayed according to gender.
If you are a male, you see rooms allocated to males only and vice versa.

After booking, you have exactly 24 hours to pay your accommodation fee or else your room will be taken from you.
