In a historic moment for the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), a new chapter has been written in its student leadership as Yvonne Adobea Osei emerged victorious in the Students' Representative Council (SRC) elections.
She is the first female student of KNUST to aspire for SRC President in the Second Year and ended second with over 2000 votes. She is the first female student of KNUST to aspire for SRC President twice with a male student vicing her at any time. She is the first female student of KNUST to win the KNUST Presidential position with over 8200 votes.
Notably, this marks the first time in the university's history that a female student has been elected to the prestigious position of SRC President.
The elections, which saw a massive participation of 22,161 verified voters, were held with transparency and integrity, ensuring the voice of the student body was well represented. Out of the total number of voters, 9,243 were women, demonstrating the growing engagement and empowerment of female students in the university's affairs.

Presidential Race:
The race for the SRC President was a tightly contested one, with six candidates vying for the position. Yvonne Adobea Osei stood out as the frontrunner, securing an impressive 37.37% of the votes, which amounted to 8,282 votes. She contested for the second time after placing second in the 2022/2023 elections which Master Frank Owusu topped. Her victory is not only a testament to her capabilities and vision but also a milestone for gender equality and female leadership on campus.

Other Presidential Candidates:
1. Francis Nana Kane: 217 votes - 0.98%
2. Alhassan-Atta Shaibu: 2,931 votes - 13.23%
3. Fiifi Obeng Bediako: 3,483 votes - 15.72%
4. Ebenezer Korankye Antwi: 2,472 votes - 11.15%
5. Abraham Rockson Kwarteng: 4,568 votes - 20.61%
These candidates also played a vital role in the election process, and their contributions are commendable. The competitive race brought various perspectives and ideas to the forefront, enriching the campus debate and discussions.
Supporting Leadership Roles:
The election didn't stop at the presidency, as other crucial SRC positions were also filled with dedicated and capable individuals:
General Secretary:
- Christabel Baaba Mills secured a significant victory, receiving 10,721 votes, which accounted for 48.38% of the total.

- Miriam Quansah and Samuella Opoku Agyemang were also notable contenders, securing 5,556 votes (25.07%) and 5,441 votes (24.55%), respectively.
Financial Secretary:
- Kelvin Oheneaku emerged victorious with an impressive 46.82% of the votes, totaling 10,376 votes.

- Prince Agyei Mensah and Joshua Agyei also showcased strong performances, securing 6,122 votes (27.63%) and 4,941 votes (22.33%), respectively.
Women's Commissioner (WOCOM):
- Mavis Akolbila was elected as the Women's Commissioner with an overwhelming 65.78% of the votes, amounting to 6,080 votes.

- Gilgal Aahnikah-Boateng and Nana Yaa Aduakye also ran formidable campaigns, securing 1,644 votes (14.79%) and 1,322 votes (14.30%), respectively.
