In a surprising and controversial move, the organisers of the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) have demoted Prempeh College to the Regional Qualifiers, stripping them of their automatic qualification for the National Championship. This decision comes despite Prempeh College’s impressive performance last year, where they reached the semifinals.

The demotion follows a protest by Prempeh College regarding their semifinal loss to Opoku Ware School. The College protested the results of the contest, taking their grievances to court. This legal challenge appears to have triggered the organisers’ decision to demote them, effectively preventing Prempeh College from bypassing the Regional Qualifiers. Prempeh College had protested against the answers of a riddle in the semifinals.
The announcement of this significant development was made on the X (formerly Twitter) page of Prempeh College's 2012 year group, @Amanfuor2012. The news was met with disappointment and frustration from alumni and supporters, who expressed their dismay over the decision.

The rules of the National Science and Maths Quiz has also been updated which includes;

The ban shall apply to all aspects of the competition, including regional and national levels.
Some other rules:
<> Any form of post-contest complaints will be resolved for educational purposes ONLY and not to overturn the results of a contest that has ended with results.
<> Under no circumstance should a teacher, contestant, or supporter attempt to disrupt the flow of the competition by interrupting, or attacking the Quiz Master/Mistress, or contestants on stage. Doing so can result in the disqualification of the school.
<> Production Supervisors shall entertain protests only from school coordinators but not from old students, current students who are not contestants, or fans.
<> The Quiz Master/Mistress is in charge of adjudication of the program. It is the Quiz Master's prerogative to award full, or partial marks, or none to answers given by contestants.
