The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has officially opened its admission portal for the 2025/2026 academic year. This applies to applicants who are yet to write the WASSCE in 2025 as well as those who already possess their WASSCE results or other acceptable qualifications from previous years.

Accepted Entry Qualifications

Applicants must possess any of the following qualifications:

  • WASSCE/SSSCE
  • GCE/IGCSE (Cambridge) Ordinary and Advanced Level
  • General Business Certificate Examination (GBCE) and Advanced Business Certificate Examination (ABCE)
  • International Baccalaureate (IB)
  • Baccalaureate
  • WASSCE International

  • Higher National Diploma (HND): HND Certificate plus High School Results
  • Post-First-Degree Law Applicants: First Degree Certificate plus High School Results

Possessing any of the listed qualifications with good grades gives you the opportunity to be considered for admission. However, meeting the basic requirements does not guarantee placement into your preferred programme. Admission is subject to specific programme requirements, particularly the required elective subjects and cut-off points. It is advisable to consult the official programme requirements file before applying (Click Here to Access Programmes Requirements).

Changes in the KNUST Admission Process

Over the years, the KNUST admission procedure has evolved. Initially, applicants had to purchase application vouchers from banks or post offices, fill the forms online, and submit a printed version by post. Subsequently, a shortcode system was introduced for voucher purchases, and the submission process was revised to require only online submissions. Although these updates improved convenience, challenges such as system errors and access barriers, particularly for applicants in deprived areas, persisted.

KNUST has acknowledged these challenges and introduced measures to streamline the application process, including a more user-friendly online admission portal.

Updates on the Admission Portal

  • Registration Portal: Applicants must first register with valid contact details. A functional phone number and email address are required. Once registered and verified, these contact details cannot be edited. Verification is done via email, and all correspondence from the university will be sent to the provided contacts. SHS students without active contact details are advised to create and use their own. Avoid using third-party contacts unless absolutely necessary.

  • Applicant Type: Applicants must select their type based on nationality—either Ghanaian or International.

  • Voucher Purchase/Verification: Previously, vouchers could only be purchased at banks or via shortcode. Now, an online option is available, which is especially useful for those unable to visit banks or post offices. Applicants can choose to pay via mobile money or bank transfer. When purchasing a voucher, ensure the correct programme type is selected—Undergraduate, Postgraduate, or Diploma—as vouchers cannot be exchanged or refunded. Applicants must also select the appropriate stream (Regular or Institute of Distance Learning).

Once the voucher is secured, applicants may proceed to the application portal to fill out the form. It is essential to provide accurate and consistent personal information. Your name on all supporting documents must match the name used on the portal.
