As hostel prices on campus are increasing exponentially, along the way cost of living is very high.
Items purchased at market prices are sold at extreme high rates to students.
In an interview with Joy News, a student narrates his own share of his story,
He said, ' Food here is expensive, can you imagine gari and beans(gɔbɛ), if you do not buy fifteen cedis or more you will not get satisfied'. He adds up that he spends almost hundred cedis a day.
This really shows how students are suffering on campus. It is not a good thing to be worrying about academics and what and how you are going to eat. The nation's economy has had great impact on the prices of goods and services and students are crying out loud.
Food that people could afford for ten cedis now cost them fifteen cedis. Residence of the various halls in KNUST are complaining about the prices of food and food items. They say the prices do not tally the quality and quantity of the food. This also puts their health at risk since they are spending so much on something that is going to cause them harm. Is it because they have no choice that is why they are been treated that way?
Below is the interview of the student and the reporter from Joy News.

Once the vendors are shop owners around identify that you're a student, they mention outrageous prices for products and items. Once they see you're a students eg. Something that is 5 cedis will be sold to you at 8 cedis or 7 cedis.
