Madam Cecilia Abena Dapaah, who tendered her resignation as the Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources on Saturday, has now been detained by the Office of Special Prosecutor (OSP) due to suspicions of corruption and corruption-related activities.
The arrest is linked to the alleged misappropriation of significant funds and personal assets from her residence in Abelempke, Accra, for which five individuals are currently facing trial.

In an official statement, the OSP announced that Ms. Dapaah is currently undergoing questioning by authorized officers from their office.
Amidst media reports covering an ongoing criminal trial involving five suspects accused of embezzling millions of dollars and Ghanaian cedis, there is a growing demand for the arrest and investigation of Abena Dapaah to ascertain the source of the substantial sums of money involved.
The trial involves two house helpers, Patience Botwe (18 years old) and Sarah Agyei (30 years old), along with three other individuals who allegedly stole a significant amount of money from Abena Dapaah and her husband between July and October 2022. The stolen amounts reportedly include $1 million, €300,000, and millions of Ghanaian cedis, as well as personal belongings.
Abena Dapaah, however, is contesting the figures presented in the prosecution's charge sheets, claiming that they are inconsistent with what she had reported to the police regarding the missing funds. As the situation unfolds, the calls for her arrest and further investigation are gaining momentum, seeking to clarify the origins and circumstances surrounding the large sums of money and belongings at the centre of the case.
