BLAZING FORD ESCAPE: TRAGEDY STRIKES WITH DELAYED RESCUE AT KNUST

On Monday, April 15 2024, a shocking incident unfolded on the grounds of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) that left many bewildered and disappointed. In front of Unity Hall, a grey Ford Escape, belonging to a lecturer, became engulfed in flames, transforming from a functional vehicle to a heap of ashes and twisted metal in a matter of minutes.

The sequence of events leading to the car's fiery demise is both alarming and disheartening. It began innocuously enough, with the lecturer attempting to start the ignition, only to be met with the terrifying sight of flames erupting from beneath the hood. Quick to react, he vacated the vehicle, undoubtedly thankful for his escape from potential harm.

However, what followed was a series of attempts to douse the flames that proved futile. Despite the efforts of bystanders, including security personnel from the KNUST security service, and the use of two fire extinguishers, the blaze raged on, consuming the vehicle with relentless intensity.

What exacerbates this already distressing situation is the revelation that the Ghana National Fire Service, a mere 2-3 minutes drive from the scene, failed to arrive promptly. Stationed at Old Laundry, their delayed response meant that by the time they reached the location, the Ford Escape had been reduced to a charred skeleton of its former self.

Understandably, criticism has been directed towards the fire service for their apparent lack of urgency in attending to the incident. In a scenario where every second counts, their delayed arrival undoubtedly contributed to the car's tragic fate. Students and members of the public alike are left questioning why a vital emergency service was not able to respond in a timely manner, especially given their proximity to the university campus.
