The Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Osei Tutu II, has renewed calls for the government to accelerate work on the stalled University Teaching Hospital Project, describing it as a matter of urgent national importance. He made the remarks during the final day of the 13th R.P. Baffour Memorial Lectures and the 59th Congregation.

He referenced the government’s renewed commitment, announced earlier by the Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, who stated that forty-six million Ghana cedis had been allocated for completing construction, while an additional thirty-eight million dollars would be dedicated to equipping the facility under the 2025/2026 GETFund formula.Osei Tutu II praised Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang for her crucial role in relaying KNUST’s appeal to President John Dramani Mahama. “It was through her we sent the message,” he said, acknowledging her advocacy in advancing progress on the project. He also encouraged the Vice President to use this “historic moment” to cement her legacy by ensuring the hospital’s full completion.The Chancellor emphasized that the University Teaching Hospital remains a transformative project that will greatly strengthen medical training, research, and national healthcare delivery. He urged the President to fulfill the government’s promise and bring the long-awaited project to fruition.

During the ceremony, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Rita Akosua Dickson, highlighted significant appointments approved by the University Council. These include Mr. Benjamin Boampong as Registrar, Prof. Philip Antwi-Agyei as Provost of the College of Science, Prof. Christian Koranteng as Provost of the College of Art and Built Environment, and Dr. Richard Lamptey as the University Librarian. She commended their contributions, along with others appointed across various units of the university.
She also celebrated major student achievements that elevated the institution’s reputation on national and global platforms.

A four-member team from the School of Business won the 2025 Tertiary Business Sense Challenge, with Mr. Kwadwo Acheampong Opoku emerging as the overall best-performing student. Enactus KNUST were crowned national champions, honored by President John Dramani Mahama at the Jubilee House, and later competed at the Enactus World Cup in Bangkok, finishing among the Top 16 globally. KNUST additionally won the 2025 National Insurance Debate involving 15 universities and emerged national champions of the 28th GUSA cross-country and minor games held at University of Environment and Sustainable Development.
