Every year, potential applicants flock to specific locations to purchase e-vouchers in order to apply for admission. However, there are instances where some are not granted admission due to a variety of reasons such as program prerequisites, incorrect information, meeting cut-off scores, and other factors.

In this post, we will look at one major reason which is the CUT-OFF POINT.

WHAT IS A CUT-OFF POINT?

Students write WASSCE with the aim of getting a good grade in order to gain admission.

Why is every student seeking a good grade?

Based on the grade you attain you get to know if you are eligible for the program of interest. The majority of prospective university students prefer 'hot-cake' programs. They want to be respected, get a better job, have an interesting career and earn big time during and or after school.

Is it necessary to consider the cut-off point when choosing a program?

Yes, every student's first goal is to surpass the cut-off point, enabling them to confidently confirm their eligibility for a specific program.

The CUT OFF POINT is a minimum grade required for admission into any institution that demands it. The cut-off point, therefore, seems more or less like a boundary you should not exceed. They vary from one program to the other and from school to school.

KNUST's main campus may have a different cut-off point to that of the branched campuses. For instance, if you want to read BSC. Civil Engineering on the main campus, the cut-off point is 10 but for Obuasi Campus, the cut-off point is 16 (Referencing 2022/2023 Entry Requirement).

Some programs exist both on the main and Obuasi campus. The better your grade, the higher your chances of gaining admission to your preferred program.

How Is The Cut-Off Point Used?

The cut-off point is used to determine the limited grade for applicants.

This is how to use the cut-off point when selecting your programs:

Your grade should not be more than +2 of the cut-off point. E.g, if the cut-off point is 10, you should not apply for such programs if you have grade 13 onwards.

The cut-off point may be subdued to change yearly by +1,-1 or +2,-2.

Note: This calculation may not be true for all programs depending on the number of applicants for such a program, thus competition.

Choosing a program is based on the cut-off points of the previous year, thus 2022/2023 academic year applicants will make their program selection based on that of the previous year, 2021/2022.
