SRC Life Insurance Policy

The SRC Life Insurance Policy, also known as the "Policy," stands out as a pivotal initiative to provide essential benefits to students and their parents facing challenging circumstances. The proposed expansion of the policy includes incorporating Final Year Project Allowance and Monthly Stipends. This comprehensive approach ensures that the policy covers every facet of the academic journey for bereaved students.

1. Increased Total Sum Assured:

The bill proposes a substantial increase in the total sum assured, elevating it from Ghs 3,500 to Ghs 22,000. This enhancement is designed to significantly bolster the support provided to beneficiary students.

2. Expanded Benefits:

The introduction of the enhanced policy translates to increased benefits for students. For instance, a student whose parent suffered permanent disability in the last academic year would receive a total benefit of Ghs 16,500, encompassing tuition, accommodation, stipend, and final year project allowance (if applicable).

3. Tactful Premium Adjustment:

The SRC successfully negotiated with insurance companies, doubling the premium paid by students from Ghs 12 to Ghs 25. This adjustment played a crucial role in achieving the proposed comprehensive coverage.

4. Strategic Selection of Insurer:

After rigorous evaluations and negotiations, Glico Insurance emerged as the selected insurer for the policy. The decision was based on their competitive offer and distinguished status in the Ghanaian Insurance Industry.

Transparency in the Bid Process:

The SRC demonstrated transparency by disclosing the names of shortlisted companies and the thorough evaluation process. While the names of unsuccessful bidders were redacted in the public document, a complete disclosure is available in the bill submitted to Parliament.

Vodafone Data and Call Package ("VodaPack")

The second draft bill presented by the SRC focuses on the enhancement of the Vodafone Data and Call Package, or "VodaPack." Recognizing the growing demand for data and internet services among students, the SRC proposes an increase in the monthly data allocation from 5GB to 10GB.

Addressing Student Needs:

1. Doubled Monthly Data Allocation:

The proposed increase from 5GB to 10GB aims to meet the rising demand for data and internet services, ensuring that students have ample resources for both educational and personal purposes.

2. Enabling Unfettered Internet Access:

In an era where connectivity is integral to academic success, this proposal aligns with the evolving needs of students, facilitating seamless access to online resources.
